Two minors drown in separate incidents in Rodriguez, Rizal

One of the victims was a four-year-old kindergarten pupil. According to the Rodriguez Municipal Police Station, a witness saw three children swimming in the Sitio Inigan Wawa River in Barangay San Rafael on Sunday morning.

The witness was alarmed when only two children returned.

Police said the four-year-old boy may have fallen into the river while on his way home.

A search immediately followed, lasting nearly an hour before the child was found.

He was rushed to the hospital but was later declared dead on arrival.

Later that same day, another drowning was reported at the Marikina River Spillway, which is still within the jurisdiction of Rodriguez, Rizal.

Authorities discovered the lifeless body of a male teenager, estimated to be between 13 and 18 years old, on Sunday evening.

A witness stated that the victim had been fishing in the area. The teenager reportedly dove into the spillway, but the strong water current dragged him away, preventing him from resurfacing.

The Rodriguez Police said they are now coordinating with the local government to establish the identity of the teenage victim.

Meanwhile, both cases serve as reminders of the dangers posed by rivers and spillways, especially during unpredictable water conditions.

Authorities have urged parents and guardians to closely monitor children near rivers and other bodies of water to prevent similar tragedies.
