A suspected member of the Ipit Gang failed in his attempt to steal a woman’s cellphone in Pateros after she noticed his move.

CCTV footage from Barangay Aguho showed the woman waiting for a ride when a man suddenly went behind her.

The victim turned around and confronted the man after he allegedly tried to take her cellphone, which even fell to the ground during the struggle.

The woman held on to the suspect and called for help from people nearby, but no one responded.

Authorities believe the bystanders may have been working with the suspect, as they did nothing to assist her.

According to police and barangay officials, the group was suspected to be part of the Ipit Gang, known for targeting passengers.

Later that night, two alleged members of the group were caught at a checkpoint after another victim reported a similar incident.

The two suspects were arrested but refused to give any statement to authorities.

The Ipit Gang in the Philippines is a group of thieves known for targeting commuters and passengers.

Their name comes from the Filipino word “ipit,” which means to squeeze or trap.

Their common method is to surround or press tightly against their victim, making it hard for the person to move or notice that their belongings are being taken.

They usually operate in crowded areas like jeepneys, buses, or busy streets, where it is easier to blend in and escape.
