The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced the suspension and confirmed that the driver, or registered owner of the vehicle, has been issued a show-cause order.

This mandates them to appear before the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to explain the incident.

The incident gained public attention after a video posted by the Facebook page "Parkeserye" went viral. The video shows the driver of a Toyota Hilux Tamaraw 2.4, with two different sets of license plates, swapping them in a suspicious manner.

According to the DOTr's statement, the vehicle had both a standard license plate (CCP2849) and a temporary plate (AC 137B).

The LTO has verified that both plates are registered to the same owner and vehicle.

The show-cause order is a formal directive that requires the individual to provide a written explanation for their actions.

It specifically asks them to address why they should not face charges for violating the "Use of Number Plates" provision under the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, and why their license should not be permanently revoked for being an "Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle."

The driver has been ordered to appear for a hearing on August 22, 2025, and surrender their license on that day.

Failure to comply will be considered a waiver of their right to be heard, and the case will be decided based on the evidence at hand.

This incident is part of a broader government crackdown on traffic violators caught on social media. The DOTr, led by Secretary Vince Dizon, has a policy of automatically suspending the licenses of drivers who are clearly seen committing traffic violations in viral videos, without the need for a prior hearing.

This no-nonsense approach aims to deter rogue drivers and promote road safety.

In a further step to prevent any potential misuse, the LTO has placed the vehicle under "alarm status."

This measure effectively freezes any transaction involving the vehicle, such as selling or transferring ownership, for the duration of the investigation.

The DOTr also called on the public to continue reporting similar incidents, highlighting the crucial role of social media in holding drivers accountable.

The case underscores the government's firm commitment to enforcing traffic laws and ensuring that all motorists adhere to regulations for the safety of everyone on the road.

This video discusses the LTO's temporary suspension of a driver's license for a similar, though separate, incident of reckless driving, illustrating the agency's policy of using viral videos to enforce traffic laws.
