The unsuspecting homeowners were left stunned after they recognized the thief as the person they had trusted to enhance their home security.
The victim, Sheila May Reyes, discovered the theft early Friday morning. According to her statement to the press, her sister noticed the family’s cooking gear was missing.
Reviewing the newly installed security footage revealed a man quietly entering their home in the dead of night, carefully moving a cooking pan off the top of the LPG tank, and then making off with the entire cylinder.
The act, which occurred just after midnight on Thursday, was caught in crystal clear detail.
The homeowner was quick to identify the individual captured by the camera. The suspect, a man who also reportedly works as a handyman in the community, was the same person who had installed the surveillance system just a short time before.
Reyes expressed her shock, stating, “He wasn't even trying to hide his face. He's so familiar to us because he's the one who installed the camera. He even does repair work for us whenever we have something broken."
The lack of a locked gate at the house was also addressed by the family, who said it's common practice given the large number of people who live there and are constantly coming and going. This routine, however, provided an easy opportunity for the alleged thief.
The suspect’s identity was further corroborated by local barangay officials, who confirmed he is a resident of their community with a history of alleged theft.
According to barangay records, he has been the subject of several complaints for similar crimes and is even listed on the barangay's drug watch list.
In a separate and equally disturbing incident, he was also reportedly involved in a knife-point altercation with a minor at a nearby store in a neighboring barangay.
Reyes stated that she and her family are now preparing to file a formal complaint with the Manila Police District to ensure the suspect is apprehended and brought to justice.
The incident serves as a stark warning to residents about the importance of being vigilant even with those they believe they can trust and highlights the need for due diligence when hiring individuals for home services.
