Authorities have confirmed that the driver of a closed van involved in a fatal accident along the Central Luzon Link Expressway (CLLEX) in Tarlac City on Tuesday morning, August 12, 2025, tested positive for illegal drugs.

Reports said the driver tested negative in the alcohol breath test.

The accident claimed the lives of five people—four died on the spot while one passed away in the hospital.

Nine others, including the driver, suffered minor injuries such as bruises and scratches.

According to some passengers, the driver was speeding at around 80 to 100 kilometers per hour before the van slammed into a metal fence along the expressway.

Authorities believe it was a self-accident, meaning no other vehicle was involved.

The driver claimed that he suddenly lost control of the van, causing it to crash.

Victims were from Caloocan City and were on their way to Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija, when the incident happened.

The driver is now facing charges of multiple homicide, multiple serious physical injuries, and damage to property.

The suspect said he was there to talk to his wife and settle their misunderstanding, but unfortunately, it led to a big arguement.
