The animal, named “Panther,” underwent surgery to remove the projectile.

According to a report by GMA Regional TV One Mindanao on Monday, Panther’s owner rushed the injured cat to the Davao Emergency Veterinary Hospital in Davao City for immediate treatment.

Veterinarian Dr. Ronald Lunar, who performed the operation, said, “Mabuti na lang at nadala kaagad sa kanila ang pusa.”

He explained that the quick response prevented the injury from becoming fatal.

After more than an hour in surgery, the embedded marble was successfully extracted from Panther’s skull. The cat’s owner suspects that a neighbor was responsible for the shooting.

Panther is now in stable condition, but the owner has expressed determination to file charges against the alleged perpetrator.

Under the Animal Welfare Act of the Philippines (Republic Act 8485), it is illegal to harm or maltreat animals. Those found guilty face penalties, including fines and imprisonment.

The incident has drawn concern from animal welfare advocates, who emphasized the importance of enforcing laws to protect pets and other animals from violence.

The owner hopes the case will serve as a warning and deter similar acts in the future.

Panther’s recovery has been described as a fortunate outcome, but the trauma underscores the ongoing challenges in safeguarding animals from cruelty. Authorities have yet to confirm if formal charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
