The investigation by the police revealed that the victims and the 48-year-old suspect were drinking together when a heated argument suddenly erupted between them.

Police Major Joann Navarro, the spokesperson for the Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10), provided a chilling account of the incident.

She explained that the suspect's initial argument was with one of the in-laws.

When the other in-law intervened to help, a physical fight ensued, and the victims were able to injure the suspect. Following this initial scuffle, the suspect retreated to his home.

What happened next turned a brawl into a double hom1cide. The suspect returned minutes later, no longer with just his fists, but armed with two itak—a type of long, heavy knife or machete.

He then brutally attacked and hacked both men, who were unable to defend themselves. The victims were killed instantly, while the suspect, who had been injured in the initial fight, was taken to the hospital for treatment.
