The suspect, identified only as "Ian," was apprehended after a months-long manhunt, following a complaint from a girl who was 16 years old at the time of the incident.
The arrest was carried out on August 1, 2025, by the Marikina City Police Station's Intelligence Section, with assistance from the Naval Intelligence Security Group NCR.
The suspect, a resident of Barangay Fortune, was apprehended by virtue of a warrant issued by Family Court Branch 7 of the Marikina City Regional Trial Court.
Police Brigadier General Aden Lagradante, District Director of the Eastern Police District (EPD), confirmed the details in a press statement.
According to the police report, the crime took place on January 3, 2023, in a vacant lot in Concepcion Uno, Marikina City.
The victim, who was 16 at the time, had agreed to meet the suspect to discuss a job as a jeepney conductor.
However, upon their meeting, the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and proceeded to s3xually assault her.
The young girl, traumatized by the incident, initially kept the abuse a secret from her parents.
A month later, the victim discovered she was pregnant and confided in her mother. The mother then helped her report the crime to the police, leading to the filing of a formal complaint and the eventual issuance of an arrest warrant.
General Lagradante hailed the arrest as a testament to the police's commitment to protecting the public, particularly the youth.
"Ang mga karumal-dumal na gawaing ito ay walang puwang sa ating lipunan," Lagradante said, extending his praise to the Marikina police officers for their diligence. "Kung kaya ako ay nagpaparating ng isang malaking pagpupugay sa mga kapulisan Marikina. Lagi nating ipamalas ang pagiging masigasig at husay sa pag aksiyon upang labanan ang karahasan at pang-aabuso sa lipunan."
The suspect is currently being held at the Marikina City Police Custodial Facility, awaiting a commitment order from the court.
The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in a case that has been under investigation for nearly two years.
The EPD and the Marikina City Police have placed a strong emphasis on addressing such cases, particularly those involving minors, reinforcing their commitment to ensuring justice for victims of gender-based violence.
The successful manhunt and subsequent arrest serve as a stern warning to those who would prey on the vulnerable, reaffirming that law enforcement will relentlessly pursue criminals to hold them accountable for their actions.

In other news, the Philippine Air Force assured the public there is no cause for alarm after a large snake was captured near Villamor Air Base in Pasay City on August 4. PAF Commander Lt. Gen. Arthur Cordura explained that the snake likely came from nearby communities through interconnected drainage systems, displaced by recent rains and flooding. An air force personnel who was bitten by the snake is in good condition after receiving an anti-tetanus shot, as the snake was confirmed non-venomous. Cordura emphasized that while snake sightings are unusual, measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents, especially during maintenance activities near the airport.
Still in other news, a 9-year-old girl reported missing was found lifeless and unclothed in a vacant lot in Barangay Santa Lucia, Novaliches, Quezon City on Sunday afternoon. CCTV footage showed the victim walking with a 13-year-old male neighbor to the compound where her body was later discovered; the suspect has been taken into police custody. Barangay captain Ruel Marpa stated the suspect admitted to strangling the victim until she lost consciousness, after which "something happened that shouldn’t have." Authorities are investigating the possibility of other individuals being involved, as they doubt the boy could have entered the locked compound alone.
