Authorities have identified eight more bodies that were found stacked inside a funeral home in Manila that was closed for lacking proper permits.

The names were released through a spot report from the Manila Police District’s Homicide Division.

One of the bodies was a 49-year-old Japanese man, Akihito Nishizuka, who was found dead inside a condo unit in Malate back in August 2024. No relatives claimed his body.

The rest were believed to be homeless individuals who died on the streets.

One of them, known only as “Tata,” was shot dead on June 21 for unknown reasons.

Another, called “Ramil,” estimated to be in his 50s, was found lifeless along Ermita Avenue on May 11.

The body of a young girl, aged around 13 to 15, was discovered floating in South Harbor on July 10.

Three more elderly people, believed to be senior citizens, also reportedly died in public places.

On Thursday, families complained that Body and Light Funeral Services refused to release the remains of their deceased loved ones unless they paid bills that reportedly reached over ₱100,000.

The bodies are now under the care of Manila North Cemetery. The cemetery will wait one week to see if any relatives come forward before proceeding with the burial.

Some families have gone there to check if their relatives’ remains are among those transferred.

Manila North Cemetery director Daniel Tan said he referred cases to the City Legal Office and advised families to file a blotter report at Manila City Hall.

Meanwhile, the DSWD reminded the public they offer up to ₱50,000 in funeral aid for poor families.

Applicants need to submit required documents and undergo an interview with a social worker.

The agency also warned that accredited funeral homes could lose their license if they are reported for poor service.

In another viral local report, a 51-year-old public school teacher in Las Piñas City was stabbed multiple times by her own husband. According to the report of EJ Gomez in 'Unang Balita,' the 38-year-old suspect committed the crime inside the school's faculty room. Police authorities said the school has a security guard, but, being a familiar face in the school, the suspect managed to easily get in and out of the school. The suspect said he was there to talk to his wife and settle their misunderstanding, but unfortunately, it led to a big arguement.
