The driver of an elf truck that struck the victim and then fled was arrested hours later at a police checkpoint in the neighboring province of Cagayan, bringing a swift resolution to the case.
According to a report by GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon, the woman was walking along the side of a road near the barangay hall when an elf truck came up from behind and struck her.
The horrifying moment was captured by a CCTV camera, which recorded the truck hitting the victim and then speeding away without stopping.
Good samaritans who later found the woman lying on the pavement immediately rushed her to a local hospital, but she was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival due to the severe injuries she sustained.
Local police in Cabatuan quickly launched an investigation and pursuit operation. Based on the crucial CCTV footage, they were able to identify the vehicle and its plate number, KAN 7852.
A flash alarm was immediately issued, and the information was disseminated to police stations in surrounding areas.
Their quick action led to a breakthrough that same evening. At approximately 7:15 p.m., the Amulung Police Station, led by Deputy Chief Police Lieutenant Eloide Fuggan, set up a checkpoint in Barangay Estefania, Cagayan, after receiving a tip that the suspect's vehicle had been sighted.
The Isuzu truck was successfully flagged down, and the driver, identified as Lando, a 33-year-old married man, was taken into custody for questioning. The suspect reportedly refused to give any statements to the police following his arrest.

The suspect is now being held at the Cabatuan Police Station and is expected to face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homic1de, as well as for his failure to render aid to the victim after the crash.
The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of irresponsible driving and the importance of road safety.

In other news, a 14-year-old victim claimed she was repeatedly abused by a suspect since May and was threatened with harm if she spoke out. Atty. Jeremy Lotoc revealed the suspect deceived the victim by inviting her to a diner but instead brought her to a motel. The victim disclosed that she was offered money and gifts, and intimidated with threats against her and her family if she reported the abuse. Now over seven weeks pregnant, the victim’s mother demanded the suspect’s imprisonment, while the suspect expressed regret and asked for forgiveness.
Still in other news, the DNA from three cadavers exhumed in a Batangas cemetery does not match samples from the families of 23 missing sabungeros. The exhumed remains, which included two males and one female, were believed to have been buried three years ago and had gunshot wounds. The Philippine National Police (PNP) is urging other families of the missing cockfighting enthusiasts to provide DNA samples to help with identification. No DNA profiles were successfully extracted from bones found in Taal Lake due to contamination, adding another challenge to the investigation.
