In the Philippines, no one is legally at fault if a person willingly saves someone from drowning and ends up dying in the process, as long as there is no foul play or negligence involved.

The law sees this as an act of heroism, and it does not punish anyone for trying to save a life.

However, if the drowning incident happened because of someone's recklessness or negligence—such as a resort not providing safety warnings or lifeguards—that person or establishment could be held responsible, including for the death of the rescuer.
