According to Lacson, a prominent casino hotel chief executive officer (CEO) has expressed willingness to host the highly unusual charity event.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Senator Lacson revealed he was informed by a credible source that "the CEO of a popular resort casino hotel, a well-known philanthropist, is willing to open their ballroom for the charity boxing match between Nick Torre and Baste Duterte."
Lacson, himself a retired four-star police general, explicitly urged the two figures to push through with the fight for the benefit of "the many poor flood victims."
The challenge for this potential pugilistic encounter originated from Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte. His dare to General Torre III stemmed from an incident in March, when the PNP chief led the enforcement efforts for an arrest warrant against the mayor’s father, former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Mayor Duterte publicly accused Torre III of being emboldened solely by his position, stating, "You’re only brave if you have the position. If we had a fistfight, I can take you on."
General Torre III, in response to the mayor's provocative remarks, creatively proposed transforming the personal challenge into a charitable endeavor.
He suggested organizing the fistfight as a charity boxing match to raise crucial funds for Filipinos severely affected by recent inclement weather, particularly those displaced and struggling due to the southwest monsoon, locally known as "habagat," which has caused widespread flooding across various regions.
Torre III even floated the idea of holding the event at a large venue like the Araneta Coliseum.
When questioned about the appropriateness of a sitting PNP chief accepting such a challenge, Senator Lacson acknowledged the delicate balance.
He remarked that, personally, it might not be suitable for Torre III in his capacity as the country's top police officer.
However, Lacson quickly added that the decision ultimately rests with Torre III as an individual who felt publicly insulted.
"Personally, rightly or wrongly, I think we should respect his decision," Lacson stated, underscoring the personal affront rather than the official capacity.
To further underscore his support for the charity aspect of the proposed match, Senator Lacson made a personal pledge.
He announced his intention to purchase tickets for the fight, with the amount equivalent to his one-month pension as a retired four-star police general, provided that "the proceeds will definitely go to the recent flood victims."
This move by a respected former law enforcement figure adds significant weight to the call for the match to proceed, emphasizing the potential humanitarian impact.
The unfolding narrative of this proposed boxing match has captivated public attention, blending political tension with an unexpected charitable twist.
While the concept of high-ranking government officials settling disputes in a boxing ring is certainly unconventional, the suggested beneficiary – flood victims – provides a compelling and sympathetic angle.
As discussions continue, the public awaits whether this unique challenge will indeed transform into a legitimate fundraising spectacle.

In other news, the roof of a local animal shelter in Dasmariñas, Cavite, caved in on Tuesday due to torrential rains and strong winds, displacing dozens of rescue dogs. Despite the complete structural collapse captured on CCTV, all 76 canine residents of the "Loved by the Gapz" shelter were safely evacuated, with no injuries reported. Shelter staff quickly relocated 54 dogs to a large outdoor tent with extended tarp coverage, while the remaining 22 found shelter in other secure areas. "Loved by the Gapz" is appealing for public donations, specifically galvanized iron sheets, tubular bars for roof repair, and items like old cages and blankets for their displaced animals.
Still in other news, former presidential partner, Honeylet Avanceña, confirmed that former President Rodrigo Duterte and their daughter are aware of the decision to sell their house in Doña Luisa Village, Davao City, News5 reported. Avanceña cited security threats as the main reason for selling the property, emphasizing it is not due to financial need. “Alam niya at saka alam ng anak ko. Di naman kami nanghihingi kagaya ng iba,” Avanceña said, dismissing speculations of financial motives. She also remarked, “Wala naman kami nilabas na libro para pagkakitaan ko.”
