Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara reminded parents and local leaders not to cancel classes just because of light rain since it causes “learning loss” for students.
He said, “Nakikiusap din kami sa publiko, mga magulang, mga estudyante, huwag natin masyadong i-pressure ang ating local government, chief executives na konting ulan mag-suspend na tayo.”
Angara explained that schools must have “make-up classes” to recover lost learning time but clarified these classes can be after school or when teachers are available, not necessarily on weekends.
He also talked about the poor academic performance of students, especially in reading and math.

To fix this, DepEd will strengthen the “Aral Program,” which gives students “personalized tutorials” and “remediation sessions.”
Angara thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for supporting education programs, such as hiring more teachers, adding classrooms, and expanding the feeding program.
The “Expanded School-Based Feeding Program” now lasts “120 days” and covers all kindergarten students nationwide.
Angara said, “Nasa 120 days na tayo. At the first time universal feeding, ibig sabihin lahat ng bata sa kindergarten ay kasama sa feeding program this year,” which aims to improve student health and learning.
