During what was supposed to be a simulation exercise for the launch of the country’s updated 9-1-1 emergency hotline in Panabo, Davao del Norte, police officers ended up responding to an actual crime scene.
According to Jun Veneracion’s report on GMA News “24 Oras,” Philippine National Police chief General Nicolas Torre III, who was monitoring from Camp Crame in Quezon City, witnessed the quick response of his personnel while testing the five-minute police response goal.
A real caller reported a suspicious man in a small hotel.
When authorities arrived at the location, they discovered that the man was a suspect in a recent shooting incident in Tagum City.

The entire police operation was captured on body cameras worn by the responding officers.
The recorded footage was later shown to Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
He expressed optimism about the improvements in police response, saying, “Despite the technology we are using, we are doing very well. But sa bagong sistema natin I think the PNP will have a better response time.”
The new 9-1-1 system, funded by a P1.4 billion winning bid, is expected to be operational by mid-August.
It comes with modern features, including the ability to pinpoint the exact location of callers.
Secretary Remulla added, “Ang features niya ay language sensitive. So kung tatawag ka sa Pampanga, Kapampangan ang sasagot sa iyo.”
The system also has safeguards to easily identify prank callers, ensuring faster and more efficient emergency responses.

In another viral local report, a 51-year-old public school teacher in Las Piñas City was stabbed multiple times by her own husband. According to the report of EJ Gomez in 'Unang Balita,' the 38-year-old suspect committed the crime inside the school's faculty room. Police authorities said the school has a security guard, but, being a familiar face in the school, the suspect managed to easily get in and out of the school. The suspect said he was there to talk to his wife and settle their misunderstanding, but unfortunately, it led to a big arguement.
