Ten dogs died after allegedly being poisoned by a farmer.
The dog-poisoning incident occurred in Barangay Liloan, Ormoc City, Leyte.
In a report by Ivan Mayrina on GMA 7's 'Unang Balita,' investigations showed that a resident of the barangay saw the farmer carrying dog food that was placed on top of a banana leaf.

The rest of the dead dogs were seen near the cornfield.
According to a resident, the farmer was possibly angered by the fact that his corns were ruined for some reasons because of the dogs.
An animal rights advocate has already filed a complaint against the farmer. A dog owner who owns one of the deceased dogs is also planning to file a complaint against the farmer.
In the Philippines, poisoning and killing dogs is considered a criminal offense under Republic Act No. 8485, or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998, as amended by RA 10631.
A person found guilty of such an act may face criminal charges for animal cruelty or for killing an animal without justifiable reason.
The penalties include imprisonment ranging from six months to two years, or a fine between ₱30,000 to ₱100,000, or both, depending on the court’s ruling.
If the act involves cruelty, is done repeatedly, or results in the animal’s death, the penalties can be more severe.
If the dogs were owned, the offender may also face additional charges such as theft or damage to property.
Complaints can be reported to the barangay, police, Bureau of Animal Industry, or local animal welfare groups.
