Two Grade 9 students in custody after assaulting peer in Basilan

Two ninth-grade students from Basilan National High School are now under the care of the City Social Welfare and Development Office after being caught on video physically assaulting a fellow student.

The video, which has since gone viral on social media, shows the suspects attacking a 15-year-old Grade 10 student within the school grounds in Isabela City, Basilan.
The footage, dated June 25, 2025, surfaced online and led to the case being reported to the Isabela City Police Station on June 30.
Police Major Shellamie Chang of Police Regional Office 9 stated that the suspects were allegedly coercing the victim into doing something he did not want to do.

“Pinipilit siyang manigarilyo or something, basta may pinapagawa sa kaniya na ayaw niyang gawin,” she explained in a report aired on GMA’s “24 Oras Weekend.”
Charges will be filed against the students under the Anti-Bullying Act.
However, due to their age, they will be processed in accordance with the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, being considered children in conflict with the law.
According to a statement from the Philippine National Police (PNP), both students have a history of behavioral problems and initially failed to return home after the incident. A formal complaint was filed on July 4.
The victim’s father also reported that his son was not only punched and kicked but also had his head banged against a wall, with one of the attackers reportedly threatening him with a knife.
“The safety of our children will always be a priority for the Philippine National Police. We will never tolerate any form of abuse or violence, especially in schools—places that should be safe for every student,” said PNP chief Police General Nicolas Torre III.

Still in other news, a 16-year-old girl in Antipolo accused a tricycle driver of forcibly taking her to a hotel instead of bringing her home after work around 3 a.m. The victim said the driver ignored her pleas and sped up when she asked to be let off, "binilisan pa niya lalo 'yung takbo ng tricycle niya, natatakot na po ako nun." At the hotel, CCTV showed the driver holding her arm, and the girl said: "hihingi po sana ako ng tulong kaso natatakot po ako sa kanya."
