According to a report by Dano Tingcungco on GTV News Balitanghali this Monday, the child’s mother, referred to as “Jennifer” (not her real name), shared that around 8:00 p.m. on June 21, her child ate rice and soup for dinner.
Half an hour later, the child drank milk and went to sleep around 9:00 p.m.
At approximately 12:40 a.m., Jennifer woke up to use the restroom and saw her child sleeping on their stomach.

When she turned the child over, she noticed something was terribly wrong.
“Parang sobrang lanta’ nito at hindi gumagalaw,” she said, adding that when she switched on the light, “violet na ang labi ng kaniyang anak.”
Doctors later informed them that there was a significant amount of fluid and food found in the child’s lungs.
The death certificate stated the cause as aspiration pneumonia, indicating the child had difficulty breathing due to substances from the stomach entering the lungs during sleep.
Jennifer was advised that people often vomit when they cannot breathe, but her child was unable to do so.
She warned, “Huwag niyo pong hahayaan na kahit sanay po ang anak niyo na nakadapa… baka matulad siya sa anak ko.”
Pediatrician Dr. Benjamin Co explained that sleeping face down is risky, especially for babies.
“Sleeping on the stomach can block the airway… oxygen drops, carbon dioxide rises… that’s really not good,” he said.
