Residents of Murcia, Negros Occidental, apprehended two men who were allegedly stealing the battery of a parked jeepney.

According to a report by GMA Regional TV, also aired on Balitanghali on Thursday, locals grew suspicious of the suspects, believing their target was the battery of a jeep parked in the area.

Upon checking the tricycle used by the suspects, residents discovered six vehicle batteries inside, raising further suspicion about the men's activities.

Authorities were immediately alerted, and the suspects were turned over to the police.

The Murcia police confirmed that during questioning, the two men admitted that stealing vehicle batteries was indeed their modus operandi.

“Umamin sa kanila ang mga suspek na talagang modus nila ang pagnanakaw ng baterya,” police stated.

The suspects are now facing theft charges for their actions.

Local residents have been praised for their vigilance and swift action, which led to the arrest and prevention of further thefts in the area.

The incident also serves as a reminder for vehicle owners to remain cautious and to park in well-lit, secure areas whenever possible.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine if the suspects are linked to other similar incidents in nearby towns or cities.

According to the report of Brigada News Philippines, the incident happened on June 23, Purok Ilaya, Brgy. Tuyan, Naga, Cebu. The suspect, Satur, is 29 years old, while the victim, Mae, is 24. Mae said that the suspect borrowed her cellphone, and she suspected that he used her e-wallet to play on Scatter, eventually leading to an argument and to the assault.
