According to the police and as reported by GMA 7's 'Balitanghali,' the driver was a male, and he's a minor.
He is now scheduled to be turned over under the care of the Davao City Social Welfare and Development Office for the intervention process.
Meanwhile, the suspect's parents refused to issue any statement about the incident.
In the Philippines, if the driver of a vehicle is a minor and hits someone, resulting in the victim's death, the case becomes more complicated.
Since minors cannot legally obtain a driver’s license, the act of driving alone is already a violation.
If the minor caused a fatal accident, they may still be held liable, but under the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, children in conflict with the law are treated differently depending on their age.
If the minor is 15 years old or below, they are exempt from criminal liability but may undergo intervention programs.
If the minor is above 15 but below 18 and acted with discernment, they may be held criminally responsible and may face penalties appropriate to their age.
However, the parents or guardians, and even the owner of the vehicle, may also face civil or criminal liabilities for allowing a minor to drive.

In a previous report by KAMI, a family of three was mercilessly shot and killed inside their store in Barangay Mallorca, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija. Caught by CCTV, three men entered their store, closed the roll-up door, and shot the entire family to death. Before fleeing, one of the suspects even grabbed a bag and a mobile phone from the victim. In a report by Gary De Leon of TV 5's 'Frontline Pilipinas,' the family started getting threats after lending P1-M to one of the residents of their barangay; allegedly using the money for business.
In another viral local report, a 51-year-old public school teacher in Las Piñas City was stabbed multiple times by her own husband. According to the report of EJ Gomez in 'Unang Balita,' the 38-year-old suspect committed the crime inside the school's faculty room. Police authorities said the school has a security guard, but, being a familiar face in the school, the suspect managed to easily get in and out of the school. The suspect said he was there to talk to his wife and settle their misunderstanding, but unfortunately, it led to a big arguement.
