According to loca authorities, rscue teams immediately conducted a search operation upon receiving reports of the missing child. Sadly, the boy was found already dead, GMA Integrated News reported.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, an 11-year-old girl remains missing after she drowned in a river in Lamitan, Basilan on Friday. Search and rescue operations are ongoing as of this writing.

Basilan residents continue to experience severe weather conditions, making rescue efforts even more difficult.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) has issued warnings to communities, urging them to take extra precautions.

“Pinag-iingat ng Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office ang mga residente sa posibleng flash flood at landslide,” the agency said, citing the risks posed by continuous rains and rising water levels.

Authorities are closely monitoring riverbanks and mountainous areas vulnerable to flash floods and landslides.

They have advised families living in high-risk zones to prepare for possible evacuation.

The persistent rains caused by the Hanging Habagat have disrupted daily life in various parts of Basilan, and residents are reminded to stay updated through official advisories.

The tragedy underscores the need for heightened awareness and disaster preparedness, especially in vulnerable provinces during the rainy season.

Still in other news, five people, including a baby, died in a residential fire in Barangay Buting, Pasig City late Wednesday night. The victims were a 45-year-old man, 39-year-old woman, 15-year-old boy, 11-year-old girl, and a one-year-old boy. Three minors—aged 2, 4, and 13—were injured and suffered breathing difficulties due to smoke inhalation, ayon sa GMA Integrated News. The fire started at 10:46 p.m. and was brought under control by 11:18 p.m., according to the Bureau of Fire Protection.
