Police Staff Sergeant Carlo Navarro, a 45-year-old officer assigned to the BF Homes police substation in Parañaque City, sustained multiple stab wounds after confronting a man who went berserk in Barangay San Antonio on Friday, May 23, 2025.

Navarro’s swift action, reportedly prioritizing the safety of children in the area, has earned him commendation from police officials and widespread praise from the public.

The incident unfolded at approximately 10:45 AM along Creek Drive 1, Valley 8. According to reports from the Philippine Star and Inquirer.net, authorities received a call from a concerned citizen about a male individual, identified only by the alias “Arnold,” who was causing a public disturbance.

The suspect was reportedly armed with a broomstick and a butcher knife, aggressively challenging bystanders and causing tension in the community.

Upon responding to the scene with another police staff sergeant and members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT), Navarro approached Arnold to pacify him.

Navarro later recounted to reporters that he was extra cautious because he noted the presence of children behind the agitated suspect, fearing they could be taken hostage.

As he attempted to control Arnold, the suspect allegedly became even more aggressive, suddenly drawing the butcher knife and launching a brutal attack.

Navarro reportedly lost his balance, and Arnold immediately followed through with his attack, stabbing the officer multiple times. Navarro sustained three stab wounds to the head and one to the chest.

Despite his injuries, Navarro, with the assistance of his colleague and the BPATs, managed to subdue and control the suspect.

Following the apprehension of Arnold, Police Staff Sergeant Navarro was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed that after receiving proper medical care, Navarro is now in stable condition and recovering.

Major Elmer Accanta, chief of the BF Homes police substation, stated that Arnold has a history of engaging in altercations while under the influence of illegal drug5.

Arnold reportedly apologized to Navarro for the incident, citing personal problems as the reason for his erratic behavior.

He is currently detained at the Parañaque police station and is facing multiple charges, including frustrated murder, direct assault, alarms and scandals, and illegal possession of bladed weapons.

The bravery displayed by Police Staff Sergeant Navarro has garnered significant public recognition.
