According to the initial investigations, the victim was reported alone inside their home because her parents were at work.
The Bureau of Fire Protection is still investigating what caused the fire.
In the Philippines, if a minor with a physical disability (PWD) dies in a fire because she was left alone at home, the parents or guardians may be held responsible depending on the circumstances.
Under Philippine law, parents and guardians have the duty to ensure the safety and proper care of minors, especially those with disabilities who may not be able to protect themselves during emergencies.
If it is found that the child was left unattended without proper supervision or safety measures, authorities may consider this as negligence.
This can lead to legal consequences, such as a child neglect case under the Child and Youth Welfare Code or even civil liability for failing to exercise proper care and attention.
