The crime took place along 18th Lacson Street, in the vicinity of a gas station situated behind the Colegio de San Agustin Bacolod, Barangay 5.

The victim, identified in a DYHB exclusive interview as “Inday,” was relieved of P49,000, the funds intended for her and her cousin’s upcoming tuition fees.

According to Inday’s account, she was walking back to her dormitory, which is located near her school, after leaving to purchase her evening meal.

As she was traversing a curved section of the road leading back to her dorm, she was suddenly accosted by a lone male assailant.

The man reportedly grabbed her and then brandished a knife, pressing it against her chest while demanding, “Dal-a di” – a Hiligaynon phrase meaning “Give it to me.”

The demand was directed at the plastic bag she was carrying, which contained her dinner, some groceries, and her wallet holding the significant sum of P49,000.

Overcome by fear and finding herself alone on the street at that particular time, Inday was unable to call for assistance.

The robber swiftly snatched the plastic bag containing her belongings and the crucial tuition money before quickly fleeing the scene, leaving the student in distress.

Inday described the perpetrator as wearing a black cap and a surgical mask, effectively concealing his facial features and making immediate identification challenging.

The stolen money, she explained, had been specifically sent to her to cover the educational expenses for both herself and her cousin, underscoring the devastating impact of this crime on their academic pursuits.

Immediately following the traumatic experience, Inday contacted her parents to inform them of the robbery and the loss of the substantial amount of cash.

She noted that she frequently uses this particular stretch of 18th Lacson Street as a shortcut to her dormitory and that, despite her regular passage through the area, this was the first time she had been targeted in such a manner.

Inday also admitted to the necessity of carrying such a large sum of money, presumably due to the impending tuition payment deadline or logistical reasons.

Following the incident, she promptly filed a police report at Bacolod Police Station 2.

In her report, Inday made a plea for increased vigilance and security in the area, requesting that local authorities deploy more patrols, either police officers or community watch personnel, to monitor the vicinity and deter future criminal activity.

The incident highlights the vulnerability of students carrying large amounts of cash for educational purposes and raises concerns about safety and security in areas surrounding educational institutions.
