Almost 19 million junior and senior high school graduates of 2024 are allegedly considered "FUNCTIONALLY ILLITERATE," based on data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.

This means that while these students can read, they struggle to understand information or even basic context.

A study mentioned during a Senate Committee on Basic Education meeting also revealed that over 24 million Filipinos aged 10 and above have difficulty processing or understanding information.

According to a report from TV5's 'Frontline Express,' many teachers in the Philippines are aware of this and have long seen signs of a growing "learning crisis" in the country.

According to some of them, it's possible that some of the provisions in the current curriculum might be causing this crisis in the education sector.

"Kasi po ang ating curriculum, 'yung Matatag curriculum, pino-promote po nila 'yung mass promotion na kahit hindi ganoon kahusay ang bata, ay kailangan po naming ipasa. So, mass promotion po ang Matatag curriculum sa ngayon kaya kahit kami po mismong teacher, nahihirapan talaga," said Erlinda Alfonso, President of the Quezon City Public School Teachers Association.

The suspect said he was there to talk to his wife and settle their misunderstanding, but unfortunately, it led to a big arguement.
