Authorities advised the public to immediately consult an animal bite treatment center if bitten by a dog. This is regardless of whether the dog was vaccinated or not.

Additionally, they advised dog owners not to be complacent even if it's their own pet who bit them, because their pets might still be infected with rabies by other dogs around.

Rabies kills a person by attacking the brain. After a person is bitten by an infected animal, the virus travels through the nerves toward the brain. Once it reaches the brain, it causes swelling and serious damage that leads to symptoms like confusion, fear of water, paralysis, and eventually coma. If not treated early, usually before symptoms start, rabies is almost always deadly.
