A canteen helper was fatally stabbed with a katana or samurai sword by a barangay tanod in Ermita, Manila, recently.

According to police reports, the stabbing occurred inside the canteen where the victim was employed.
The suspect suddenly barged in and, without warning, attacked the helper with the sword he was carrying.
As reported by Frontline Pilipinas, the suspect stabbed the victim without saying a word, using a samurai sword that caused the victim’s immediate death.

Initial police investigations suggest jealousy as the motive. Authorities believe the suspect suspected the victim of having an affair with his live-in partner.
After the incident, the suspect voluntarily surrendered to the Manila Police District (MPD).
Recovered from him were the samurai sword and a knife, both believed to have been used in the attack.
In a media interview, the suspect expressed his emotional pain over what his partner allegedly did:
“Masakit po talaga sa akin kasi no read, no write po ako. Lahat ng pinaghirapan ko, binuhos ko po sa kaniya."
Alam ng taumbayan ‘yan, dahil kahit ako ganito, sa sobrang sipag ko, mabait ako, kilala ako ng taumbayan po. Ginawa lang akong panakip-butas,” the suspect shared.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is facing a charge of murder.
