A police officer in Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan, died after being shot by a still-unidentified assailant who was riding a motorcycle.

The incident, which occurred on April 19 in Barangay Maningding, claimed the life of Police Staff Sergeant Renato Alvarado Jr., a member of the inter-operative and drug enforcement team of his police station.

According to a report by Glam Calicdan-Dizon of GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon on Friday, Sergeant Alvarado was riding his motorcycle when he was attacked by the lone gunman, who was also on a separate motorcycle.

Following the shooting, Alvarado was rushed to a hospital for urgent medical treatment. However, despite the efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries on April 23.

Investigators who processed the crime scene recovered five spent bullet casings from a .40 caliber firearm.

Authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the fatal shooting. Pangasinan Police Provincial Director, Police Colonel Rollyfer Capoquian, assured the public and the victim's family that every effort is being made to solve the case, expressing hope for a resolution within a month.

The family of the deceased police officer has made a fervent appeal for justice.

Beatriz Alvarado, the mother of the slain sergeant, expressed her belief that the perpetrator would not remain at large for long, citing the commitment of her son's colleagues to find the person responsible.

She recounted a conversation with the police chief, who assured her that all possible measures would be taken to bring the culprit to justice.
