In the Philippines, when a passenger jeep crashes due to brake failure, the driver and/or vehicle operator are usually held responsible, especially if negligence or poor maintenance is proven.

The driver can face criminal and civil charges, while the operator may also be liable under vicarious liability laws if they failed to maintain the vehicle or hire qualified personnel.

Public transport operators are expected to ensure passenger safety with extraordinary diligence.

Though rare, manufacturers may be liable if a defect is proven. Legal consequences include possible imprisonment, fines, and damages to victims' families.
