In a disturbing incident in Brgy. Patag, Naga City, Cebu, a 29-year-old man identified only as Joseph was arrested after allegedly setting his own home on fire— a hut he shared with his mother.

The fire occurred shortly after 1 p.m. on Monday, April 14, according to a report from Brigada News Philippines.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a simple question.

Joseph's mother, Baby, asked him where he had been and whether he had eaten, which unexpectedly escalated into a heated argument.

Moments later, Joseph allegedly torched their modest home.

She shared that her son had a history of troubling behavior.

However, this latest act pushed things too far, resulting in Joseph’s arrest and detention.

This case is the latest in a string of domestic fire incidents in the Philippines, many tied to personal disputes or mental health issues.

In 2023, a man in Quezon City also set fire to his family home after a quarrel with relatives, leading to widespread damage in the neighborhood.

In another case from Davao del Sur, a son burned down their home after an argument about financial support.

Meanwhile, Joseph remains in custody as authorities conduct further investigations.

In other news, a cyclist was robbed of his cellphone by a rider while he was on the road. In a dashcam video shared by GMA News, the cyclist was at the rightmost lane of a road, seemingly unaware of what will transpire next. Thereafter, a rider moved closer to him, and the rider instantaneously grabbed the cellphone and sped off. The driver from where the dashcam video was recorded tried to go after the rider, but the latter was very fast and the driver was caught in traffic.

Meanwhile, a mother was arrested after she allegedly offered an online live show involving her 13-year-old son in Caloocan City. Based on the report of ABS-CBN, her two minor children were rescued by authorities. Aside from her own children, her five-year-old grandchild was likewise rescued. As per the report of the NBI, the transaction was discovered after an Australian client of the suspect was arrested by authorities.
