The heart-wrenching event unfolded in Barangay Bonuan Gueset when a group of youngsters, aged between seven and thirteen, were struck by an Asian Utility Vehicle (AUV) while they were on the side of the road.
According to reports from GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon, the victims were resting by the roadside when the AUV, driven by Hannibal Mores, a resident of the same area, veered off course and hit them.

Maribel Aquino, Russel’s mother, expressed inconsolable grief over the loss of her son, describing him as a cheerful and loving child. The pain of her sudden loss was evident in her statements to the media.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Brendon Palisoc, the chief of the Dagupan City Police Station, provided details from their initial investigation.
He stated that the AUV, driven by Mores, allegedly experienced a mechanical issue. According to the initial findings, the driver reportedly swerved to avoid a woman and a tricycle, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and veer to the right, where the children were resting.
“Nagkaroon ng mechanical defect… may iniwasan siyang babae at trike tapos kinabig niya sa kanan,” P/LtCol Palisoc said.
Hannibal Mores, who is currently in custody, expressed his remorse and hoped for forgiveness from the victims' families.
“Ipinagdarasal ko na kung maaari, mapatawad ako ng pamilya. Hindi ko sinadya. Wala namang taong sasadyain na mangyari yun,” he pleaded.
However, Russel Aquino's family is determined to seek justice for their son.
Maribel Aquino stated firmly, “Yun po ang kailangan namin ngayon. Hindi po mababayaran yung pagkamatay sa anak ko. Hindi ko matanggap.”
The family's resolve underscores the profound impact of the tragedy on their lives.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are expected to conduct a thorough examination of the vehicle and gather further testimonies to ascertain all the contributing factors to this tragic event.
