An individual suspected of a violent robbery against a taxi driver in Talisay City, Cebu, has been identified by authorities.

The suspect, described by police as a known perpetrator, allegedly robbed the driver at gunpoint, took 1,600 pesos from the latter.

According to reports from GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak, Police Lieutenant Colonel Maila Maramag, head of the Talisay City Police Station, confirmed the suspect’s identification.

This was made possible through footage obtained from the taxi's dashboard camera, as well as closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings that captured the suspect's movements after exiting the vehicle.

Additionally, witnesses from the local motor taxi driver community recognized the individual.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of March 22, 2025. The suspect, posing as a passenger, boarded the taxi in Barangay Tabunok and disembarked in Barangay Lawaan 3.

The suspect, who was wearing a hat and facemask, and armed with a firearm, robbed the 46-year-old taxi driver.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Maramag stated that the suspect is a known offender who has been under their surveillance. Authorities are currently awaiting the issuance of an arrest warrant.

The utilization of dashboard and CCTV camera footage has proven to be an important tool for the police in identifying the suspect.

The help of the local motor taxi drivers, that were able to identify the suspect, was also very helpful to the police investigation.

Meanwhile, a barangay tanod met his untimely demise when a former tanod shot him a couple of times. A report from GMA Regiional TV One Western Visayas said the lifeless body of the victim, 52-year-old Carmelino Minor, was found in Barangay Amparo, Pavia, in Iloilo province. The report further states that a couple initially found the body wearing a tanod uniform but thought at first that he was just intoxicated. When they returned later, they found the body still there and this time they noticed blood was oozing from his mouth.
