The discovery of a 13-year-old girl’s body beneath an altar in a chapel in Baybay City, Leyte, has led to the arrest of the chapel's caretaker, who is now the primary suspect in the molestation-slay case.

The victim's body was found unclothed, prompting a swift and intensive investigation by local authorities.
According to Police Colonel Dionisio Apas Jr., Provincial Director of the Leyte Provincial Police Office, during an interview with Super Radyo dzBB, the 37-year-old suspect fled the scene of the crime, traveling to the town of Mondragon in Northern Samar.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had been working as the chapel’s caretaker for approximately two years.

Furthermore, authorities discovered that he was also facing previous molestation charges in Biliran and Cebu.
The victim’s father reported her disappearance on March 16th, after returning home from a dialysis session to find his daughter missing. Police investigations commenced immediately.
Reports then surfaced of someone hearing cries originating from within the chapel, but those cries were ignored.
Upon entering the chapel, authorities detected a foul odor, which led them to the victim's body hidden beneath the altar.
Colonel Apas indicated that there were signs that the victim had been strangled.
However, an autopsy is pending to determine the precise cause of death and to confirm whether or not the victim was molested. The victim's residence was located near the chapel.
Upon identifying the suspect and his previous residence in Mondragon, the Baybay Police immediately alerted authorities in the area.
A follow-up operation was conducted, resulting in the suspect's arrest on Wednesday.
Authorities are now awaiting the suspect's transfer from Northern Samar to Leyte, where they intend to conduct further interviews to gather details about the crime and the suspect's actions.

According to the narration of the mother of the student, the teacher asked the student to get a rock for the tarpaulin, but an alleged splinter hit the eye of the teacher when the student threw the rock, GMA News stated. After the incident, the student refused to come to school anymore, and the principal, the teacher, as well as the DepEd officers refused to do an interview about the incident.
