Vice President Sara Duterte revealed that someone betrayed her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, leading to his arrest by The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) upon his return to the Philippines from Hong Kong on March 11.

“Hindi ko man matawag siguro na traitor pero sigurado ako sa dami ng tao na ‘yun sa loob ng kuwarto na ‘yun ay meron talagang nagsasabi kung ano ang pinag-uusapan doon sa loob. Kung kanino nila sinasabi, hindi ko alam,” VP Sara stated during the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations hearing on Thursday.

She stated that the capture of her father could be considered an "extraordinary rendition" or "state-backed kidnapping" and that the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) held no legal weight.

VP Sara questioned why the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) remained silent when the former President was taken from Villamor Air Base, the headquarters of the Philippine Air Force.

“Why did the AFP stand idly by when a former commander in chief was taken from a military base under questionable circumstances?” the Vice President asked.

During the hearing, high-ranking security officials of the government attended and strongly denied any "grand conspiracy" or that there was a mastermind behind Duterte’s arrest and the cooperation with the ICC.

“We did not assist the ICC. We never had contact with them. The investigation that they conducted was through their own methods, and we did not, in any way, assist them,” assured Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.

Meanwhile, National Security Adviser Eduardo Año emphasized that despite his friendship with former President Duterte, his loyalty remains with the government.

DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla also denied that they had any meeting with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. to plan the arrest of former President Duterte. He clarified that they only discussed rumors about an ICC arrest order for the former president.
