The Office of the Vice President (OVP) confirmed on Thursday that Vice President Sara Duterte is currently in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and is set to visit her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is detained at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, ABS-CBN reported.

According to the OVP, Duterte arrived in the Netherlands at approximately 9:27 p.m. (Central European Standard Time) on Wednesday, March 12.

Upon arrival, she received assistance from the Dutch Foreign Ministry and the Dutch National Police Corps.

Before visiting her father, the Vice President has a series of scheduled meetings on March 13, 2025.

The OVP stated that she would be attending these engagements while awaiting her designated visitation time.

Rodrigo Duterte arrived in the Netherlands earlier, landing at Rotterdam Airport at 4:56 p.m. CET (11:56 p.m. Philippine time).

He was then transported to Scheveningen, The Hague, where the ICC detention center is located.

The visit comes amid ongoing legal proceedings at the ICC, which is investigating alleged human rights violations committed during Duterte’s presidency.

While the specifics of the Vice President’s meetings remain undisclosed, her visit underscores the Duterte family’s continued involvement in the situation.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was the 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines. He left Malacañang on June 30. The newly inaugurated President of the Philippines is Bongbong Marcos who got 31 million votes in the May 2022 elections. The new Vice President of the Philippines is VP Sara Duterte, the daughter of former president Rodrigo Duterte.

Earlier, the former president was apprised of his rights under the Miranda Doctrine. In a video shared by GMA News, CIDG chief, Police Major General Nicolas Torre III, is seen reciting the Miranda Doctrine to the former president. The reading of the Miranda rights is a standard procedure for persons being arrested to ensure that the latter fully understands their rights upon their arrest. It can be recalled that the International Police (InterPol) has confirmed the issuance of the arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court against the former president.

An earlier video showing former President Rodrigo Duterte’s longtime partner, Honeylet Avanceña, seemingly trying to prevent the former leader from being taken into custody has gone viral. The video, which was posted on the social media page of their daughter, Veronica or Kitty Duterte and shared by ABS-CBN news on its own page, has since then gone viral. The said video also captured snippets of conversations between Avanceña and the former leader. As of this writing, the video has gained 1.2 million views with 5.4K comments and 29K reacts.
