Veronica Duterte, more popularly known as Kitty Duterte, the daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, claimed that they are being illegally detained.

In her Instagram stories, Kitty shared a photo of a medical certificate proving that her father needed immediate medical attention.

This came after the recent arrest of the former president following a warrant of arrest reportedly issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against him for crimes against humanity.

Former president's supporters and friends like senator Bong Go, senatorial candidate Philip Salvador, and the former chief of his legal counsel Salvador Panelo have expressed their dismay about the recent arrest of Duterte.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is a permanent tribunal that prosecutes individuals for genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and aggression. Established by the Rome Statute in 1998 and operational since 2002, it is based in The Hague, Netherlands, and works independently while cooperating with the United Nations.

The ICC has jurisdiction over crimes committed in member states or by their nationals and can also take cases referred by the UN Security Council. It intervenes only when national courts are unable or unwilling to prosecute offenders. Despite challenges such as lack of enforcement power and non-cooperation from major countries like the United States, China, and Russia, the ICC remains vital in upholding international justice.

In what seemed to be a press conference shared by ANC 24/7 on their YouTube channel, senator Marcos showed sympathy to the former president. It can be recalled that FPRRD was arrested after a warrant of arrest was released by ICC against Duterte for crimes against humanity. However, sen Imee claimed that she hasn't seen the warrant of arrest by ICC following the former president's arrest.

In another viral news related to the former president, a video showing former President Rodrigo Duterte’s longtime partner, Honeylet Avanceña, seemingly trying to prevent the former leader from being taken into custody has gone viral. The video, which was posted on the social media page of their daughter, Veronica or Kitty Duterte and shared by ABS-CBN news on its own page, has since then gone viral. The said video also captured snippets of conversations between Avanceña and the former leader. As of this writing, the video has gained 1.2 million views with 5.4K comments and 29K reacts.
