Photos shared by ABS-CBN News captured Salvador in tears as he comforted an unnamed woman who appeared to be sharing in his grief.
The arrest of the former president was carried out pursuant to a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged crimes against humanity.
The warrant stems from the controversial war on drug during Duterte’s administration, which has been widely criticized for its alleged human rights violations, including extrajudicial killings.

The emotional scenes underscored the deep loyalty and strong support Duterte continues to receive from his inner circle and followers.
Duterte’s arrest is a historic and polarizing moment for the Philippines, igniting strong reactions from both his critics and supporters.
While human rights advocates see this as a step toward justice, those who stood by Duterte remain steadfast in their belief in his leadership and policies.
As the legal process unfolds, the nation watches closely, with emotions running high on both sides of the debate.
Duterte’s arrest marks a significant chapter in Philippine history, one that will likely shape discussions on justice, governance, and accountability in the years to come.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was the 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines. He left Malacañang on June 30. The newly inaugurated President of the Philippines is Bongbong Marcos who got 31 million votes in the May 2022 elections. The new Vice President of the Philippines is VP Sara Duterte, the daughter of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
Earlier, the former president was apprised of his rights under the Miranda Doctrine. In a video shared by GMA News, CIDG chief, Police Major General Nicolas Torre III, is seen reciting the Miranda Doctrine to the former president. The reading of the Miranda rights is a standard procedure for persons being arrested to ensure that the latter fully understands their rights upon their arrest. It can be recalled that the International Police (InterPol) has confirmed the issuance of the arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court against the former president.
An earlier video showing former President Rodrigo Duterte’s longtime partner, Honeylet Avanceña, seemingly trying to prevent the former leader from being taken into custody has gone viral. The video, which was posted on the social media page of their daughter, Veronica or Kitty Duterte and shared by ABS-CBN news on its own page, has since then gone viral. The said video also captured snippets of conversations between Avanceña and the former leader. As of this writing, the video has gained 1.2 million views with 5.4K comments and 29K reacts.
