Fortunately, her head did not hit the pavement and her companion was able to seek help and carried her to safety.
Sherlyn revealed that this wasn’t the first time she had fainted. "It happens when I feel extremely tired, stressed, or experience strong emotions," she said. Despite undergoing ECG, EEG, and CT scan tests, her results were normal.
Eventually, a psychologist diagnosed her with hyperventilation syndrome (HVS). "

He asked if I had any problems or thoughts, had me take some tests, and then told me I had hyperventilation syndrome," Sherlyn recalled.
Because of HVS, she faces daily challenges.
"Yung mga ginagawa mo dati hindi mo na siya magagawa ngayon. Actually po yung sobrang pagtawa, sobrang saya, nararamdaman ko na po na nahihirapan na naman akong tapos babagsak na lang ako." she said.
Neurologist Dr. Gerald Pagaling explained what happens during hyperventilation.
"The carbon dioxide we exhale goes out much faster. When you hyperventilate, you expire more carbon dioxide, which can be harmful. As CO₂ levels drop, blood vessels, particularly in the brain, constrict," he stated.
People with HVS often experience dizziness, chest tightness, numbness, or tingling in their hands and feet.
Anxiety and stress are primary triggers, but pregnancy, infections, and heart or lung conditions can also contribute.
While HVS has no cure, sedatives may help manage symptoms.
Since it may indicate underlying conditions, seeing a neurologist or psychiatrist is recommended.
