However, in the report of Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho, the results of medical tests conducted on the child reveal more.
In a recent episode of Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, Richelle, a mother from Rizal, shared the heartbreaking story of her son, Zayn.
She first noticed that he was losing weight and looking pale.

Soon after, Zayn developed a cough and had difficulty breathing.
When he was taken to the hospital, doctors diagnosed him with pneumonia, which they suspected was contracted from airborne sources.
Richelle recalled being asked whether anyone in their household smoked. While no one in their immediate family did, they had recently returned from visiting relatives in Mindanao.
In 2023, they traveled to General Santos City and Zamboanga City after Zayn’s grandmother came home from Saudi Arabia.
“‘Yung madalas po naninigarilyo ‘yung lolo ni Zayn, asawa ng kapatid ni Lola Veronica,” Richelle said.
However, Grandma Veronica claimed that Zayn already had a cough when he arrived in General Santos, having just recovered from a fever. She also insisted they kept him away from smokers.
Richelle revealed that Zayn had always been sickly.
“Hindi po siya kumakain ng mga solid food. Everytime po pinapakain namin siya ng solid food is umiiyak siya. Nag-re-rely lang po siya sa milk,” she shared.
Faizal added that their son frequently developed boils, appearing every two months.
Doctors explained that recurring boils are a sign of a weak immune system.
When Zayn returned home to Rizal from Mindanao, his parents noticed his persistent cough and took him to the hospital. A few days later, he suffered cardiac arrest.
“He was revived. Zayn fought,” Richelle said.
Unfortunately, he sustained brain damage due to the cardiac arrest and was admitted to the ICU, where doctors diagnosed him with Pediatric Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (PARDS).
Doctors noted that secondhand smoke may not have been the sole factor in Zayn’s condition. They suggested that he may have had other underlying health issues, including an unusual head shape.
It was also discovered that Zayn had not only pneumonia but also aspiration pneumonia—an infection that occurs when food enters the lungs.
"Kasi kapag nakahiga ang tendency mabilis lang magtuloy-tuloy sa daanan ng paghinga. It is not related sa secondhand smoke. But kung mayroon kang exposure secondhand smoke saka nawala nga yung pangwalis yung plema so yung plema na 'yan hindi effectively mailalabas lalong lalo na sa mga bata na hindi marunong umubo," explained Dr. Maricar B. Limpin, a pulmonologist at the Philippine Heart Center.

When Zayn suffered another cardiac arrest, Richelle made a heartbreaking decision with her husband.
“Kinausap ko ‘yung asawa ko na sabi ko tama na. Huwag na i-revive si Zayn kasi parang lantang gulay na po kasi siya,” said Richelle.
"Antayin na lang na mag-stop ang heartbeat niya. Once na mag-stop ang heartbeat niya, hindi na po siya ire-revive," she added.
Faizal shared that their son passed away on his birthday.
