In the Philippines, riding-in-tandem refers to two people riding a motorcycle together, usually with the driver in front and the passenger at the back. While this is a common mode of transportation, the term is often associated with crimes, particularly drive-by shootings, robberies, and assassinations carried out by suspects on motorcycles.
Criminals using this method take advantage of the motorcycle's speed and maneuverability to quickly escape after committing a crime. Because of the high number of crimes involving riding-in-tandem suspects, the Philippine government has implemented various measures to curb such incidents, including stricter regulations on motorcycle riding, checkpoints, and requiring larger, more visible plate numbers for motorcycles.
