This wage dispute appears to be the immediate trigger for the hostage situation.

As the suspect fled from the pursuing officers, he entered a printing shop and held a woman there at knifepoint.

Police Lieutenant Colonel John Guiagui, chief of the District Intelligence Division of the Manila Police District, confirmed that the suspect claimed he had not been paid his due wages.

The suspect's demands included receiving his unpaid salary and seeing his mother.

After approximately an hour of negotiations, the suspect peacefully surrendered to authorities. Guiagui stated that he personally handed the ₱20,000 to the suspect's mother.

"Sabi ko sa kaniya yumakap ka sa akin walang mangyayari sa iyo. Ibinaba niya yung kutsilyo and that's it. Natapos nang maayos," Guiagui recounted.

The officer's account highlights the successful de-escalation tactics used by the police to ensure a peaceful resolution to the hostage situation.

At the police station, the suspect stated that he had no intention of taking anyone hostage and that he only ran because he was being pursued by police.
