- Former President Rodrigo Duterte went to the Senate today to appear in the hearing investigating his drug war

- In an ambush interview with a GMA News reporter, former President Duterte was asked on his opinion about the possibility of him facing off with former Senator Leila De Lima

- By way of an answer, former President Duterte said he’s at the Senate to make an accounting of what he did when he was still sitting president

- He also answered the question as to whether he had any regrets on how he handled the drug situation at the time

Former President Rodrigo Duterte today was seen at the Senate premises to appear in the hearing investigating his drug war then.

In an ambush interview with a reporter from GMA News, the former president was asked about his opinion on the possibility of him and former Senator Leila De Lima facing it off with each other.

The reporter asked him if he’s worried that there’s a possibility he would be facing former Senator De Lima in the said hearing.

“Sir you will be facing off with De Lima Sir. Do you feel worried Sir or any thoughts on that Sir?” the GMA News reporter asked.

“No, I am here to make an accounting of what I did when I was president. So walang problema,” former President Duterte said.

The reporter also asked whether the former president had any regrets on how he handled the drug situation during his time.

“What do you feel Sir na kayo ang nagigiit sa drug war na 'to, any regrets Sir on how you handled the drug war?” the reporter from GMA News asked.
“Drug war? It is for the Filipino to make the judgment,” former President Duterte replied.

When asked what can he tell the people about his drug war then, the former president has this to say:

“I did what I had to do because kailangan kong gawin. Why? To protect the people and my country,” former President Duterte said.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was the 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines. He left Malacañang on June 30. The newly inaugurated President of the Philippines is Bongbong Marcos who got 31 million votes in the May 2022 elections. The new Vice President of the Philippines is VP Sara Duterte, the daughter of former president Rodrigo Duterte.

It can be recalled that earlier this month, the former president filed his Certificate Of Candidacy. He is running for Mayor of Davao City, a position he once held before running for President. His running mate, incumbent Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte will be the running mate of the former president. It can be recalled earlier, the former president revealed his desire to gun for his former position in Davao City.

Last month, former President Duterte filed a case against DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr and other government officials. This was in connection with the storming of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ compound in Davao City in the then-search of KOJC founder, Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy. The preacher has since then surrendered to authorities. Former President Duterte filed a case of malicious mischief against Abalos and several police officials.
