Senate President Chiz Escudero, in an interview recently, gave his reply to the letter sent by Bamban’s suspended mayor, Alice Guo.

The embattled local chief executive was thrust into the limelight after she became a resource person in an investigation of a senate committee regarding Philippine Offshore Gaming Operation (POGO).
As a result, her citizenship came under scrutiny and recently, she was slapped with a preventive suspension order from the Ombudsman for her links to the POGOs.
After these events, Guo stopped attending senate hearings and as a result, the chairman of the senate committee investigating her was forced to order her arrest.

Recently, the suspended local chief executive sent a letter to the senate president, explaining her absence in senate committee hearings.
She also questioned why she’s being singled out by some legislators in their POGO investigations.
The embattled mayor also asked for understanding from the senate president and also requested help for her townmates in Bamban.
In a video shared by the Inquirer, Sen. Chiz said that while he understands the request of Mayor Guo, there are some things she should also understand.
“Bagaman naunawaan ko, yung pang-unawang hinihingi niya, hangga't hindi siya nagpapakita at sumusunod sa senado ay hindi ko matatanggap ang anumang pakiusap na hinihiling niya dun sa kanyang liham, kaugnay, di lamang sa pang unawa pero para matulungan din ang kanyang mga kababayan, dahil meron namang pumalit sa kanya na vice-mayor para ipagpatuloy ang trabaho ng pamahalaan sa Bamban,” Sen. Chiz said during the interview.
Alice Leal Guo is the Mayor of the Municipality of Bamban, Tarlac. She won as mayor during the national elections in 2022. She became known nationwide after her name was dragged into the ongoing Senate investigations regarding Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations or (POGO) and the alleged proliferation of illegal immigrants. Her name has been the subject of many online memes since then.
It can be recalled Mayor Alice Guo recently wrote to Senate President Chiz Escudero. In her letter, Guo explained her current situation as mayor and individual faced with challenges. She also said that since she is under suspension at the moment, she’s asking the Sen. Chiz to extend help to her community as she is unable to discharge her function as mayor. It can be recalled that Mayor Guo came under a Senate committee’s crosshairs because of her alleged POGO links, as well as her questionable citizenship.
Earlier, the embattled mayor has released an official statement following an order for her arrest by the senate. The suspended Bamban mayor cited "severe exhaustion" and "trauma" as the reasons why she has not attended the two senate hearings. She also addressed Senators Win Gatchalian and Risa Hontiveros in her statement, even asking if she was the country's biggest problem. She also assured the senator that she does not pose as a threat against him.
