A burned corpse was found in a vacant lot located several meters away from the road in Barangay Quirino, Bacnotan, La Union.

According to GMA Regional TV's Jasmin Gabriel Galban's report on Thursday's episode of "24 Oras," the corpse was discovered by a truck driver who was going to urinate at the place.

The victim is a 21-year-old man from Pozorrubio, Pangasinan, who was a student in Baguio City, as per the investigation. The student sustained head injuries, possibly from a blunt object, and had wounds on his right thigh that were allegedly caused by an ice pick.

The initial investigation also revealed that the victim had told his family on July 1 that he would travel to Baguio.

On July 2, the truck driver found the charred body and reported it to the authorities in no time.

"We are encouraging 'yung parents na mag-conduct ng autopsy para malaman natin 'yung talagang cause of death ng victim," PLTCOL. Jake Isidro, spokesperson of La Union Police Provincial Office (PPO) told GMA.
