John Arcilla was honored days ago by the Philippine Senate for becoming the first Filipino and Southeast Asian actor to win the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the 2021 Venice Film Festival. He won that prestigious award for his role as journalist Sisoy Salas in the crime thriller "On the Job: The Missing Eight."

However, that movie’s famed director, Erik Matti, cried foul after noticing that their movie was not even mentioned once in John’s speech at the Senate nor in his Instagram post about it. For this reason, Erik called John and his management, Star Magic, of being disrespectful.

“Ano kayang movie nakapanalo kay @johnarcilla ng Volpi cup? Ni hindi man lang nila mamention ni @starmagicphils yung movie na nagbigay sa kanya ng parangal? Medyo inexpect ko na yun sa Abs na di magmention kasi nung may prangkisa pa sila ganun na sila e. Pag di pabor sa kanila, dedma.

“Pero yung mismong artista ng pelikula di man lang mamention ang movie? Pwera na kaming mga gumawa, ok lang di masabi pero sana yung movie man lang i-acknowledge. Ang Senado nga nirecognize mismong movie na pinanalunan mo pero ikaw di mo mamention?

“Ako na magsasabi, ‘Salamat sa On The Job: The Missing 8 na movie na binigyan ako ng pagkakataon magawa ang role ni Sisoy Salas na ikinapanalo ko ng Venice Film Festival Volpi Cup award nung 2022.’

“Lahat ng sponsor mo sa derma at diet mo minention mo yung movieng nagpanalo sayo di mo masabi?!! Bastos kayo,” Erik posted.

After Erik’s post went viral, John edited his post to mention their movie “On the Job: The Missing 8.”

John Arcilla, whose full name is Romeo Gonzales Arcilla, is an acclaimed actor and environmentalist from the Philippines. He is best known for playing the lead role of Antonio Luna in the historical drama, 'Heneral Luna'. John won the Best Actor Award at the 78th Venice Film Festival for his lead role in the film ‘On the Job: The Missing 8.’

The actor went viral after he opened up about the death of his father, Dominador Arcilla, at the age of 86. The actor clarified that his beloved father did not die because of COVID-19. He stated that the lockdown made his father’s death even more painful because he and his siblings were not able to bury their father since he died in Baler.

KAMI also reported that John, who plays the main antagonist, Renato Hipolito, in the action drama series, 'FPJ's Ang Probinsyano' recently answered some questions regarding the teleserye.
