Earlier this week, Elijah shared a series of Instagram Stories featuring treasured photos from the trips he had taken with JM. Along with the snapshots, the actor admitted that although three years have already passed since his brother's death, the emotional pain has remained.
“It’s been 3 years. I miss you every single day, JM. I don’t think the pain will ever change. We just try to get stronger day by day to carry on. I love you more than anything,” he wrote.
In another Story, Elijah expressed another short but heartbreaking message dedicated to his younger brother.

“It sucks here without you, JM,” he added.
JM Canlas died at the age of 17. At the time, his family announced the tragic news through a social media statement that described him as a gifted young individual whose talents extended beyond acting.
“It is with the heaviest heart and deep sorrow that our family announces the death of our bunso, Jamile Matthew Madiclum Canlas, earlier this morning. He was 17. JM, as he was known to many, was a talented actor, athlete, musician, singer, debater, and gamer. He was always a proud Filipino with a bias and compassion for the poor and oppressed. But most of all, JM will forever be remembered as an incredible young man, son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, student, and friend," the family's statement read.
Following Elijah's recent tribute, many of his fellow artists and supporters flooded his Instagram Stories and other social media platforms with comforting messages, reminding the actor that he is not alone as he continues to remember his brother.
In an earlier interview with PUSH ABS-CBN, Elijah also revealed one of the regrets he continues to carry following JM's passing.
“I'm just so proud of him. Siyempre, yun yung regrets. I wish I did let him know kung gaano ako proud sa kaniya, how much I love him, how much I care for him. Pero, I know that he knows up there, and I know that he knew, even when he was still here, how much I love him and how proud he made our family,” Elijah expressed.
To honor JM's legacy, his family established KULIT, The JM Canlas Organization. The advocacy group works to promote mental health awareness in Filipino households, create safe spaces for young people, and provide psychological support for children and teenagers in the hope of preventing similar tragedies in the future.
