“I associate breaking up with grieving. A piece of you passed away—the attachment for that certain person. You go through all stages of emotions. One point, maawa ka sa sarili mo. One point, you are proud of the wound. One point, you don’t want to socialize,” he said.

The actor shared that those real-life experiences have become valuable while preparing for his role in "The Art of Breaking Up." According to him, theater gives performers a rare opportunity to transform genuine emotions into meaningful performances before a live audience.

“Theater is really a craft. With this sensitive topic comes an opportunity to put real experiences on stage. For me personally, sabi nga ni Direk, I found myself using these words in many different phases of breaking up and grieving,” he said.

Cuenca added that he is eager to revisit those emotional memories and use them to bring authenticity to his character.

“I am excited to unpack all these things in the play. I am looking forward to show them what I have been through in the past,” he said.

Despite revisiting painful memories, the Kapamilya actor said being in a happy and emotionally stable place actually makes it easier for him to portray difficult emotions onstage.

“When I'm happy I feel I am at best. It is easier for me to access emotions and control certain trauma and sad emotions because I am in a happy place. When you are sad, mahirap, parang doble,” he explained.

Cuenca is currently in a relationship with beauty queen Rabiya Mateo, and he proudly shared his admiration for her decision to pursue a medical degree at the University of Santo Tomas.

“Sobra. I am so proud of her. The mountain she is about to climb as UST Med is not easy. That is a different mountain. I have so much respect and naka support ako sa kanya all the way,” he said.

Aside from discussing his personal life, Cuenca also expressed gratitude for becoming part of a production that brings together established mainstream performers and seasoned theater actors.
