Navigating marriage dissolution can be financially and emotionally draining, and former actress Ingrid Dela Paz is giving her followers a realistic look at how legal systems compare across borders.

In a detailed video reel uploaded to her Instagram account, Ingrid—who is now building a new life in Canada—broke down the exact expenses she incurred while filing for divorce abroad versus her previous attempt to get an annulment in the Philippines.
"Last time, kinuwento ko sa inyo na inabot ako ng ₱400,367 nung nag-file ako ng annulment sa Pilipinas. Hindi ako naka-attend ng hearing, kaya walang nangyari sa finile ko," she recalled.
Determined to legally close that chapter, Ingrid hired a Canadian lawyer to manage her divorce paperwork in three installment payments.

"Ang unang payment ko ay 1,130 Canadian dollars... nung natapos nila yung unang proseso, nagbayad ulit ako ng 1,130 Canadian dollars para masimulan nila yung next process," Ingrid detailed. "$565 naman yung huling payment ko, at kasama na dito yung divorce certificate," she shared.
In total, her Canadian divorce cost 2,825 CAD (roughly ₱123,318)—a fraction of the ₱400,367 she previously spent on her annulment attempt in the Philippines without success.
Ingrid included a disclaimer acknowledging that foreign divorce certificates are not automatically recognized under Philippine law without going through court recognition processes.
"Disclaimer lang ulit na aplicable lang ang divorce certificate na ito sa Canada o iba't ibang bansa maliban sa Pilipinas. So yes, dahil hindi pa ako na-annul, at pag-uwi ko ng Pilipinas hindi ia-acknowledge 'tong divorce ko," she noted.
Despite the legal nuances back home, Ingrid expressed immense gratitude for the peace of mind and fresh start her new environment offers.
"Iniisip ko na lang na kahit papaano, may kaunting progress na rin kaysa sa wala. At least dito sa Canada, alam kong malaya ako. Malayang maging masaya ulit," Ingrid reflected warmly. "Kapit lang, darating ang araw na magiging maayos din ang lahat, at matututunan mo ulit maging masaya."
