During her recent guesting on the latest episode of the YouTube show, House of D, Dina sat down with her children, Oyo Boy and Danica, to discuss the difficult path to forgiveness. The veteran actress did not hide the fact that the initial years after their breakup were incredibly challenging and filled with deep emotional pain.
"Yung sakin, kaya siguro kaibigan ko yung daddy niyo, syempre hindi rin naging madali in the beginning kasi syempre, hurt. Sakit nun. I remember nga you kept telling me, 'Mommy, you're so bitter.' Oo, bitter, ampalayang ampalaya eh," Dina recalled candidly.
Despite the heavy heartache, Dina actively chose to let go of her resentment for the sake of her family.

She noticed a massive, positive shift in her children’s well-being the moment she and Vic managed to establish a friendly connection.
"Nag-forgive ako and it was healthy for me na maging friend si daddy ninyo kasi nga may mga anak kami, and I felt na mas naging peaceful yung dalawang bata nung nakita nilang nag-uusap kami as friends, but not for the purpose of getting back together," she explained.
Dina clarified that while they used to be friendly—even working together on her talk show Miss D and starring in a movie—their dynamic naturally shifted as they entered new chapters in their lives. Today, she prefers to describe their relationship as civil rather than close, making sure to send polite greetings on special occasions like birthdays and holidays.
The main reason for this shift was Vic’s marriage to his wife, Pauleen Luna. Dina wanted to make sure she was sensitive to the new marriage.
"Ngayon na may mga pamilya na kayo, I don't think you can say na friends pa rin kasi nung nag-asawa na ulit si Vic, I was careful to keep a distance para naman hindi magkaroon ng impression na, 'Hmm, parang gusto pang balikan ni Dina' diba?" Dina pointed out. "Parang in respect naman for Pauleen, parang okay na yung civil na lang with each other, and nag-asawa na rin ako," she added.
Her daughter Danica completely agreed with the setup, bringing up that boundaries were also important for Dina's late husband, DV Savellano.
"And to be honest, I don't think Tito DV, when he was still alive, he wasn't also comfortable with you being friends with not just dad but any of your exes," Danica added.
Netizens have warmly applauded the episode, praising Dina for her emotional maturity, her genuine wisdom, and the beautiful respect she shows toward Pauleen and the entire Sotto family.
