Bela Padilla opened up about how her family played a major role in shaping her passion for films, storytelling, and writing long before she became one of the country’s recognized actresses and filmmakers, ABS-CBN reported.

The 35-year-old star shared that her mother, Meg Carino, strongly influenced her love for cinema while she was growing up.

Bela revealed that even her second name was inspired by a movie character from one of her mother’s favorite films.

“My love for movies was definitely from my mom. We had like a whole wall of VHS tapes,” said Bela.

She added that her second name, Elyse, came from the character Elise McKenna in the 1980 movie Somewhere in Time starring Jane Seymour.

According to Bela, her family’s love for movies helped expose her to different genres at a young age.

The actress also fondly recalled her weekly movie dates with her mother during her school days at Colegio de San Agustin.

She described the bonding moments as some of her happiest childhood memories.

Aside from films, Bela said her mother’s love for books inspired her to start writing stories of her own. Over the years, she earned screenwriting credits for projects such as 366, Yung Libro Sa Napanood Ko, and Last Night.

“The biggest influence, I would say, my mom was a big influence,” she revealed.

Meanwhile, Bela clarified that while she is open to becoming a parent someday, starting a family is not her main focus at the moment as she continues to reassess her career after returning to the country.
