Former beauty queen Lara Quigaman has embraced a new chapter in her life as a preschool teacher in Canada, describing the experience as both fulfilling and unexpectedly joyful.

In an interview with Karen Davila, Quigaman shared how her current role does not feel like a typical job.
“I love it, sobra akong nagi-enjoy. It doesn't feel like work at all,” she said.
She explained that the play-based learning system in her workplace allows her to teach children through engaging and interactive activities, making the environment both fun and purposeful.

Beyond the classroom approach, Quigaman also opened up about the differences in teaching culture between Canada and the Philippines.
“Dito kasi [sa Philippines] di ba, we have cleaners in school, dun kasi we do everything,” she said.
She noted that teachers abroad are more hands-on with daily tasks, from cleaning to organizing, something that initially surprised some of her fellow Filipino educators.
Despite the added responsibilities, Quigaman said she finds the experience humbling and meaningful.
“But I really enoy everything. Basta sobra akong nagi-enoy,” she shared.
Her journey, however, was not without challenges. While pursuing her Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Quigaman had to balance full-time studies with raising her three children.
“Nag-full load ako so it was really hard kasi I have three [children] at home,” she recalled.
The late nights and demanding schedule paid off when she graduated with distinction in June 2025.
“I am [proud of it] kasi ang hirap, pinaghirapan ko talaga 'yun,” she said.
Through it all, Quigaman’s story reflects resilience, adaptability, and a deep passion for learning and teaching.
